Meet Our Founder

Mohammad Zarif Karimi

"Every Afghan girl who is denied formal schooling deserves the chance to continue her education through safe, accessible, and high-quality online learning."

Mohammad Zarif Karimi

Founder, Afghan American Academy

Mohammad Zarif Karimi founded the Afghan American Academy with a mission born from both professional expertise and profound personal experience. As a survivor of the 2016 terrorist attack on the American University of Afghanistan, Zarif witnessed firsthand the devastating barriers that prevent young Afghans—especially women and girls—from pursuing education.

That life-changing experience didn't break his spirit; it forged his determination to create pathways for those most affected by exclusion and conflict. Through Afghan American Academy, Zarif is ensuring that Afghan girls denied access to schools and universities can continue their education through online ESL classes.

Professional Experience

  • More than a decade in higher education and program management
  • Progressive leadership roles at the American University of Afghanistan
  • Progressive roles at USAID Projects
  • Specialized focus on women's empowerment, refugee services, and girls' education

Zarif holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Business Administration from the American University of Afghanistan. He brings this academic foundation together with his lived experience to create meaningful change for Afghan girls seeking brighter academic and professional futures.
